How Do I Know What Video To Create?

Starting out as a YouTuber, I have realized knowing the type of video to create and in what niche to create it, have become pertinent questions for beginners in the content creation endeavour.

Consequent upon that question is the main reason I am putting these information together and it’s going to form a series, since I won’t be able to cover the whole training in a single post.

Here is a sneak peek of what you will be getting for free in this bundle:

Now, let’s dive right in.

Remember, you can’t create random content for random people online. It doesn’t work that way. If you must succeed in the field of content creation, you must have a niche, which will help you determine what to make videos about.

How do you determine your niche?

Well, start by looking deep within you and write down some of the things that:

  1. You love doing.
  2. You are good at it or can get trained to do it.
  3. The world needs it or can solve a specific problem in the society.
  4. And can be exchanged for money. Meaning people can pay for it on the long run.

Normally, if you get 1 to 3 right, then you have just discovered your purpose in life and ultimately number 4 is inevitable.

Here are some examples of niches to make videos about: gaming, cooking and eating foods, healthy tips, history, computers or phone hacks, life hacks, DIYs, tourism or traveling, educational subjects (if you are a teacher), spiritual messages (for Christians, Muslims or others).

What Type of Video Can I Make Especially As A Shy Person That Freaks Out In Front of Camera?

Well, the good news is you don’t have to face camera to make videos.

Here are some methods you can use:

1. Make faceless videos.

Examples are:

Top 5 facts about Africa that you need to know (for those who are passionate about history).

Top 7 myths about marriage that no one is talking about (For marriage and relationship niche).

Top 3 Facts about Ovarian Cysts that keep physicians speechless. (health niche)

You can tweak the title to align with your niche.

Then write about 10 mins script to drive home your points and then convert the script into videos (I will demonstrate this in my next lecture).

2. How About Videos With Camera?

If you don’t mind showing your face, then the following video types may work for you:

Tutorial or “how to” videos: ensure they are the types that help to solve problems or answer some frequently asked questions about a particular topic.

For example, many people do not know how to bake cakes or breads. If you are really passionate about this niche and you have the tools, why not make videos about them?

If you are a teacher, you can do various white board tutorials about some popular but hard-to-explain subjects or topics in a way that even beginners can understand. You will attract a lot of viewers if they see you breaking down difficult subjects in a very simple way.

Unboxing and Product review videos. That iPhone 14 you just bought, did you know many people also want to buy it but they need to have some background information before making a decision?

Why not do some unboxing videos explaining both the pros and cons of the product? In fact, findings from YouTube revealed that Unboxing videos attract a lot of watch time. Your viewers will have you thanked for saving them the time to scavenge for information online.

Explainer Videos

If you are into any business or trade, you can attract about 90% of potential buyers through explaining how you make or design some of your products.

A fashion designer for example can explain types of fabrics and how to avoid buying fake fabrics.

A fine artist can record some process of drawing and painting to attract viewers.

At the end of the video, you can showcase some of your products in stock.

Apart from getting potential customers through that video, YouTube will also pay you for monetizing your channel – double dose of income.

How about reaction videos?

A Medical Doctor or Nurse can react to movies or TV series relating to his profession. Let your viewers know what they got wrong and what they got right in the movie.

You can also react to messages from online preachers.

Note: To do reaction videos, you must be well grounded in that field or you must have taken the time to research that field as much as possible because many people will look up to you for the right way of doing what you are reacting to.

Vlogs or Video Blogs

These are the video versions of Blogs.

Instead of creating your content in blog form, you can convert them into videos.

If you work in radio stations, you can record your sessions and put the video online. However, you need to check with your manager to know it does not go against company policy.

The list goes on and on.

However, you must bear in mind that whatever video you create must align with your niche, passion or purpose.

We have just come to the end of the first part of this training and here is an assignment for you to prepare you for the next update.

1. Using the step-by-step process described in this lesson 1, write down at least three niches you are passionate about (i.e something you love doing and you are also good at it or can be trained doing it and can solve problems for people).

2. Which video type do you resonate with – showing your face or camera-driven?

Drop your answers in the comment section please.

See you in lesson 2.
